Magnesium Glycinate
Overview
Meta Mag® is a fully chelated form of magnesium, where magnesium is bound to two amino acid glycines.
This magnesium complex is selected for its excellent bioavailability and gastrointestinal tolerability, helping support muscle function, nervous system health, energy production and overall wellbeing as part of a balanced daily magnesium intake.
Why we chose it
Meta Mag® was chosen as the primary magnesium source because it is a trademarked, fully chelated and unbuffered Magnesium Glycinate.
It aligns with our formulation philosophy of prioritising ingredient quality, absorption potential, traceability and everyday tolerability.
What makes it different
Unlike a single-purpose manufacturing aid, Ascorbyl palmitate performs multiple functions by supporting both formulation stability and capsule production.
Role in the formulation
Meta Mag® forms the foundation of BONSAISEI MAGNESIUM daily, providing the majority of the elemental magnesium in each capsule. It works alongside Magnesium citrate to create a balanced formulation designed for consistent daily use.
Amount per capsule
538.462 mg Magnesium Bisglycinate (Meta Mag®)
equivalent to 63 mg elemental magnesium
Magnesium Citrate
Overview
Magnesium Citrate is a highly soluble organic form of magnesium widely used in premium magnesium supplements.
Its excellent solubility helps make magnesium available for absorption, supporting healthy muscle function, nervous system health, energy production and everyday wellbeing.
Why we chose it
Magnesium citrate was selected to complement Magnesium Glycinate Dihydrate by contributing a different but equally important characteristic to the formulation.
Together, the two forms create a balanced approach to magnesium delivery.
What makes it different
Magnesium citrate dissolves readily in the digestive tract, helping make magnesium ions available for absorption. It is one of the most extensively researched organic forms of magnesium that can be absorbed without stomach acid.
Its role in the formulation
Magnesium citrate acts as the complementary magnesium source within BONSAISEI MAGNESIUM daily. Combined with Magnesium glycinate, it helps balance solubility, bioavailability and gastrointestinal comfort for consistent everyday use.
Amount per capsule
186.207 mg Magnesium citrate
equivalent to 24 mg elemental magnesium
Hypromellose
Overview
Hypromellose is a pharmaceutical-grade excipient derived from plant cellulose and used to create the vegetable capsule shell.
It provides a non-animal-derived alternative to gelatin while allowing the formula to be delivered in a simple capsule with fewer processing ingredients than many conventional tablets.
Why we chose it
Hypromellose was selected because it supports a clean capsule format that aligns with our philosophy of purposeful formulation and minimising unnecessary ingredients.
What makes it different
Unlike many tablet formulations that require multiple binders, coatings and processing aids, a hypromellose capsule allows the formulation to remain simple while maintaining quality and consistency.
Its role in the formulation
Hypromellose forms the capsule shell that safely contains and delivers the powdered active ingredients.
Amount per capsule
Used as the vegetable capsule shell.
Microcrystalline Cellulose
Overview
Microcrystalline cellulose is a pharmaceutical-grade excipient derived from plant cellulose.
It plays an important role in ensuring each capsule contains a precise and consistent dose of the active ingredients.
Why we chose it
Microcrystalline Cellulose was selected in a very small amount to support accurate capsule manufacture and blend consistency without unnecessarily increasing the excipient load.
What makes it different
Rather than acting as a filler, Microcrystalline cellulose is included solely to support manufacturing precision and consistent dosing.
Its role in the formulation
Microcrystalline cellulose is used as a functional diluent to support blend uniformity between magnesium citrate and magnesium glycinate. Its inclusion helps create a more homogeneous powder blend, supporting consistent distribution of the two magnesium forms during capsule manufacture.
Amount per capsule
Microcrystalline cellulose < 1 mg
Colloidal Anhydrous Silica
Overview
Colloidal anhydrous silica is a pharmaceutical-grade excipient used to improve the flow of powdered ingredients during manufacturing.
By helping powders move smoothly and consistently, it contributes to accurate capsule filling and reliable product quality.
Why we chose it
Colloidal anhydrous silica was selected to help manage the hygroscopic nature of magnesium citrate. By adsorbing moisture within the powder blend, it helps reduce clumping and maintain the physical stability and flow of the formulation.
What makes it different
Used in an extremely small amount, it performs a purely technical role without contributing any nutritional or therapeutic activity.
Its role in the formulation
It helps reduce powder clumping and supports consistent capsule filling, ensuring every capsule meets the same quality standard.
Amount per capsule
Colloidal anhydrous silica <1 mg
Ascorbyl Palmitate
Overview
Ascorbyl palmitate is a fat-soluble derivative of vitamin C selected as a functional excipient in our formulation.
We use it as part of our encapsulation system instead of magnesium stearate. Alongside its manufacturing function, ascorbyl palmitate also has antioxidant properties.
Why we chose it
Ascorbyl palmitate was intentionally selected in place of magnesium stearate to support capsule manufacture while aligning with our philosophy that every ingredient should serve a genuine purpose.
What makes it different
Ascorbyl palmitate provides both functional manufacturing properties and antioxidant activity, allowing it to serve more than one purpose within the formulation.
Its role in the formulation
High-mineral powder blends can present challenges during capsule manufacture. Ascorbyl palmitate is used as a functional encapsulation aid to support the processing and manufacture of the magnesium blend without the use of magnesium stearate.
Amount per capsule
Ascorbyl palmitate 14 mg
